There are two colour forms or ‘morphs’ of fantail, with the more common pied morph occurring throughout its range, and the black morph comprising up to 5% of the South Island population, and occasionally occurring in the North Island.

Zig, nice pose and detail on the black morph. A little more room for the bird within the frame would be nice. Thanks for sharing from NZ.

Nice detail and eye contact. The tight crop and clipped tail hurt it a bit.

A little more room all around would be better, but the pose and detail are very nicely captured. A sweet little bird.

No worries I will reshoot as it's in the top 3 commonest back yard birds for me.

PS.  My style is NO CROPPING and closeups to appreciate the bird and not the background ;-)

Sweet shot. Appreciate your idea of getting close-ups and not cropping. Maybe just back up a bit to get all the ends of the tail, etc.

I will try again because it often approaches within a metre or two of people.
