Crandon's Resident Tricolored Heron

Crandon has such beautiful ducks & geese, but let us not forget the other fulltime residents, the sandhill cranes and this small tricolored heron. He's been there everytime I've visited the park for the last six months. This was shot around 10:30am in almost full sun.

This bird needs a name. Suggestions?


EOS 20D w/70-200 2.8L USM IS w/1.4x TC
ISO 200; F/8; 1/200 -1Ev exp. comp.; 580Ex - 2/3 FEC;
Minor crop on right. Converted using Adobe Raw 2.4 Beta; processed in photoshop cs.

Yes, our beloved *Gris* (spanish for gray, he does look gray at first sight).
PP, you can nail him flying, he spends his time crossing the pond :)
Great close-up, his eye looks very good :)

I cant believe a couple of creeters are going to keep you from the grass, you should see me coming back from the Glades in the summer, one giant bite covering my body lol

I'm just gonna wear long pants & long sleeves from now on...and repellant...and if things get worse, I'll wear one of those insect veils :P

Chris, Noir is french for black, that the black swan
Spanish and french are a big part of Miami's cultural diversity :wink:

Ok, once you turn 18, you'll get cigars...drinks will be non-alcoholic of course :P Such as non-alcoholic mojito and pina colada...until you turn 21...
