This was my first *serious* wild bird shot, taken back in the summer. Before, all I had done were static snapshots of extremely cooperative anhingas and herons.
Gigo and I were coming back from a landscape shooting in the Everglades when he saw the bird. He always carries the 100-400 and since my 17-40 was perpetually glued to my camera, he lent me his lens and stopped the car, I got out as carefully as possible, and next thing I knew, I'm here posting as frequently as I am allowed!!!!!! ( and having a great time too!!!)

Thank you for your comments :)

Great photo. . .I believe its a red-shouldered hawk. There was a good flight picture of one a few days ago showing the "red shoulders". Most of the raptors I try to get close to take off before I can get a reasonable shot :( .

Very Nice. It's a red shouldered hawk for sure.

Very nice. It's only in the best light you can photograph these birds without shadows under the strong brows.

Nice RSH-- beats anythign I have even tried to do -- but it looks like AF grabbed the perch underneath somehow? The green foliage near his feet seems sharper then the rest of him.
4 down, 2 to go.

Way to go getting one of these guys. He's a good looking bird with a nice perch. I think this is one of your best yet.
