A rather shy visitor to my garden, the "Vlei loerie" [centropus supercilliosus burchelli] is not well loved by the other birds as his main food is small birds and eggs! There is always a lot of noise when he is around.

The bright red eye really got my attention.

Great shot. The bird looks prehistoric. I'd burn the branch on right a bit, and gve a bit more room on left if you have it.

A nice hand held shot of Burchell’s Coucal. Nice to see a new bird. I see something strange with the feather arrangement on the back and side. Great eye detail. I would like to see a shot of the whole bird if you got it.

Hi Trevor,

Yes, you are right about the feathers, this guy is sitting with his back towards the wind with his wings and feathers spread, looks like he is hot and trying to cool down a bit !

In general this is a bit of a strange bird, not even mentioning the fact that it is EXTREMELY clumsy, you must see the way it "lands", it is more like an arrival that a landing !

I will post a full size photo asap, I must just select one from the collection ! Now it is bed time for me as I am leaving VERY early tomorrow morning for a photo session in a game reserve :D

Regards
Rudi

Great detail. The Bg is a tad busy. Love the eye.

Speaking for myself, the eye and black and white feathers and beak held my attention to the exclusion of all else. He looks like a thief, you can see it in that eye! Nice job of holding the extremes in tonal values.
