I use my photography for editorial/text illustration and try to get images that illustrate a point or concept. The sight and sound of the blast-off mornings at Bosque is memorable, roaring and fast. This is one version of one moment. 1Ds, 500 f/4 L IS + 1.4X; f/8 @ 1/50 sec., ISO 200. I had been shooting in semi-darkness at ISO's above 1000, working my way down with the increasing light. The nice thing about a place like Bosque, besides the fresh air, gorgeous colors, fellow photographers and exercise, is the opportunity to shoot over and over and over and try any settings your 'lil heart desires, knowing you'll get another opportunity. This image is cropped severely and little pieces of birds along the edge were eliminated in PS. (Yes, there is a blue cast which I love, also magenta, and the softness is deliberate for the abstractness of the image.) Thanks in advance for any comments. Really different colors between Mac and PC monitors.

This is one extraordinary shot especially the blue, Juli!
No doubt Bosque is one of the US locations on the top of my list for visiting one day ...

Definitely a WOW shot for me, Julie!!! The colours are wonderful :D I love the way the pastel background changes from top to bottom with all the birds being blue! What caused them to be blue?

Juli, different for sure.

I would only knock down the saturation a bit.

The best tool is the one behind the camera

This is a very interesting image, Juli. It would look great printed large hanging on on a plain white wall.

_____________

Eleanor, the birds are blue because the light is not yet daylight. The color temp is around 4000 (not sure without digging it out). The image was darker but by cropping the selected section which had a streak of dawn in the BG, it was possible to lighten in curves and get the peach, blue, pink gradations and blue birds. The image may be more pastel than what is posted here. I added saturation so the colors would carry better. Thanks.

Very interesting and much like a painting. I appreciate the thought you put into this and the explanation you gave helps to communicate your vision. A pleasure to meet you last week. :D
