Really nice Alan - there goes another $3000. Your cropped image is as sharp as one I would take of an in-hand bird with a Nilkkor 105mm.

What a great technique, my admiration for it.
And the D 800 I asked about the performance of a 500 mm with the TC 1.4 but for what it shows here with the possibility of extending it seems that you can dispense with the use of them.

I've been waiting for the stats on the upcoming (???) D400, but with this cropping ability I just may go for the D800. Therefore, you owe me the difference between the two. I'll take cash or money order ;-))

Alan: Excellent images to show the capabilities of the D800. How about a comparison of an image taken with the D4. Don't know if it would be possible to do with the same bird but the same settings in camera and the same crop would be great. hcarl

WOW! That is insane! The head shot is equal to which % of the total image? I 'd guess between 5 and 10% : am I right?
