This was a snap shot as I reacted to the whistling wings of this mallard flying over my head while photographing another subject in the marshes along the main road in Chincoteague NWR during the recent Mid-Atlantic outing.

Dan, I know there's nothing we can teach you about composition, so I'm wondering why you put him in the center of the frame. I see him on the left. I also might clone out the little stick up on the LL. Love the colors and the silhouette of the duck is fantastic, especially that little bit of gold coming through the wing.

Lovely shot, Dan. I have the same question as Alan about centering the bird.

It was just a matter of reaction. This was essentially a swing, and expose, type of image. With the split second I had to take the shot I was more concerned about letting it pass the dark area (where I pretty much visually lost sight of it) and shooting before it landed while trying to leave space for it to fly into and/or convey travel by leaving some space behind it. Ideally I'd like to have it in the upper left but when your surprised.... I actually did the same exact thing on it's flight partner that whistled over my head unexpectedly into the same landing pattern a second or two later! You can see that shot on my website.

I agree with Alan and Sandy. Overall it's a very pleasing image which I like.

Lovely mood to this one. I would crop a bit off the left.
