A kind person here in Puerto Rico told me this is a Tody. It is the same size as a hummingbird. That is, really small. They flit about like moths in the forest and I was lucky to get this shot. I like the way the background leaves look different in this shot. I think there may have been a small branch in front of the bird that I could not detect, hence the slight oof.

Canon 1D, 500F4IS, 2xII, 1/50 sec, ISO 400, 550 flash with better beamer set to -1 3/4. Sent from laptop.

What a neat bird! I can well imagine how tough it is to capture this tiny subject in that kind of environment. I do feel that the BG does not help here though, since the bird blends in too much for my taste.
The slight softness in front of the bird can easily be corrected with a strongly feathered selection around the soft looking area and increasing the contrast via levels/curves. Maybe some USM as well if needed.

cheers, Oliver

Rather busy and the focus missed the head and bill. Not up to your usual standards Rob, but a neat little bird to see though.

Not your best shot Rob, I would crop in a little tighter.
