About three years ago, Dan Creighton posted some silhouettes of some deer on a hill-site. He didn't use the auto whitebalance tool for it but chose a manual setting instead which resulted in very nice blue colors. When I saw these photographs I was amazed that such things were possible with digital photography. Yesterday I saw this Grey Heron sitting along the water...but in a very backlit situation and then I thought about the whitebalance. I put in on Tungsten and got this really nice blue background. Later in Capture One I manually changed the whitebalance to this warm color.

Thanks for the information. That is what I call making something good out of not much at all. Very creative. Color combination works well.

Jasper, I like the action you captured here and the composition of this silhouette. I also found your website to be very interesting.

Japper, lovely image and very nice composition, love the colors and the silhouette as well, if you shoot in RAW the WB is always changeable in the end to fill your needs, one of the many advantages of shooting raw!!
Congrats!!, Well done!! 8)

Nice silhouette image with a plus, i.e., the open beak. Well done Japper.

Very well done silhoutte. The warm background color is a plus and I love the crisp, sharp edges of the silhouttes. The open beak is a real plus too.

Hi Japper---a very nice, sharp sil!! I like how the lines of the beak are repeated by some of the lines in the grass on the left.
