Great Horned Owlet

Taken a few weeks ago. He's almost directly overhead. Flash extended above camera with bracket. Hand held.

10D, 100-400IS at 400, f5.6 ISO400, EV-1 2/3, Full flash, full frame. Some moss cloned out.

Excellent shot. Even though you had a steep angle, the fact that the owl is looking down at you makes it really work.

Hi Jim,

Since I've been spending a lot of time with the GHO at Santee, I know just how much work it takes to get a good image. You did a great job catching the owlet in the open. Remember the GHO in the Palm tree when you were out here? Well this time she (and her chick) are much higher up in a different tree. There is more to the story and I'll try to tell it in Monday's post.
