10D, 500 f/4.5, 2xII, 1/320 at f/9
Taken in the boat canal at Metzger Marsh. The harsh light made it tough but made the purple on the male's heads blaze. They were all even softer than this.
significant crop, focusmagic and USM.

I think the big crop is hurting the softness. Some fill flash would help to bring detail out in the darks. Maybe a little off the top. Nice shot.

She's a sweetie. Your post-processing software seems to do a good job with the 2X and significant crop.

A very tough sun angle for a dark bird resulting in full loss of detail in the posterior part of the head. Shooting this with the sun at your back would be more ideal. The pose and slight hear turn are great.
