Digging out the Plainswanderer slides a couple of days ago left me with a bunch of Australia slides in front of me, so I set this one aside to post for the "blue" motif before it expires.

While I saw this species on several occasions, they were fairly wary until I came upon this individual hunting close to a boardwalk. The bird was quite patient while I waited for passers-by to pass by until the vibrations died down and I could shoot. I was lucky that he cocked his head at this angle, just once.

Mike, Lovely bird, I just try to get the one at Metro-Zoo-Wings of Asia but nothing this nice was captured, looks as if the image was perfectly exposed , yet it looks like the exposure is a tad over on the whites and a tad flat as well, I am sure the scanning is the culprit here!!, Killer pose!!
Congrats!! 8)

Beautiful bird and capture especially the over the shoulder turn on the head. Maybe just a touch more contrast. Personal preference.

Great blues, and that head turn is priceless. I agree with Alex that it seems flat, almost like it were shot through a dirty window. I'm glad I don't have to deal with scanners.

Look at those shades of blue! The overall color scheme is very pleasing. Nice touch with the sig. :)

Just a random thought... Would softening the log perch a little help focus more attention on the bird?

Thanks for sharing this fine shot.

Very cool bird and a just right for the motif. The OOF bg is ok but the angled leaf near the bill is a bit distracting.

Great shot Mike and from my experience with scanning I'm sure the slide looks a lot better.

You guys sure nailed it; the scanning, as well as the post-processing, was a nightmare. I thought I could get this thing done and posted in 10 minutes, and it ended up taking more than half an hour. Scan-time curves to save the whites and dig into the darks, levels and more curves later to add back what is probably insufficient contrast ... another thing I probably should have done is partially exclude the whites from the sharpening phase. Another push to go digital ...

Great pose and the colors complement nicely to create a very pleasing scene. I also found them to be wary in the N.T.
