Yesterday the weather wasn't great but after work I decided to go check out Jones Beach while driving though the west end 2 parking lot I spotted something white out on the beach. So I grabbed my binoculars and sure enough it was a Snowy Owl so I grabbed my gear and headed down to the beach. After making a slow approach I was able the get some images before he flew off into the dunes.

I grew up on Long Island. Now that I love birds I feel silly for having down time there as I should have been out birding. Nice to see your work- as always.

Wow, I should drive down there sometime.. maybe next winter. What a difference a few months will make... here, a pristine habitat complete with a Snowy Owl... in a few months.. overrun with a mass of young urbanites at a sold-out Britney Spears concert.

As for the image, it's great. The OOF foreground lump and a bit more head turn would be all I'd wish for. But then again any picture of this bird is also on my list of things to wish for! Nice job.

Jimmy:

Great find. I haven't seen anything worth shooting in weeks, let alone a Snowy Owl. They never showed up in CT this year.
I'd be tempted to crop off the sky.
I like the semi-dorsal view, but wish both eyes were showing. For some reason, owls lose a lot of their "presence" when one eye is missing.

Very nice shot. I think this would work better as a horizontal with the sky cropped as AJ suggested.

Lovely image, colours are very beautiful. I like the low placement.
