European Grey Wolf
Captive
EOS300D, Sigma 100-300 F4, ISO 400, F8

While we were photographing the howling Wolves, one wandered off and went to one of their favourite spots on this mound of earth. I watched and the late afternoon sun cast this special glow through the trees behind, creating this incredible background as it shone on the grass and the bark of a fallen tree. All I did was to blur the BG a little more and it resulted in this dream-like image. I did post a 'doctored' image in EHK, but this is the original. A few moments later the sun set and this light was gone.

All comments and critiques always welcome and appreciated and thanks for looking.

Gorgeous shot Carol. The relaxed pose and the beautiful lighting make this one very special. Congrats on getting such a special image.

The light is certainly sweet, providing a halo effect around the subject. Very nice. Scrolling up and down on the screen, I like it also with the top lighter areas gone, cropped in closer, halo of light only around the subject. Just wonderful Carol..

Very nice! I like how you chose the DOF, with the paws and face in focus, but the ears are blurred. I think that works better than if the ears were sharp and the paws blurred.

Expanding on Dennis' crop suggestion, I'd knock 5-10% off the top (just get rid of the light area), but more importantly, I'd cut off as much of the foreground as you can get away with. It just screams "ZOO" right now, but if crop to a bit below the paws, it's much nicer.

Stunning is the word, Carol. It's appearing just a little oversharpened on my monitor. The BG colors are spectacular, however, to show off his incredible coat.

Wonderful pose but what makes this is clearly that spot. Good positioning to get it lined up right behind the wolf. Nicely done.

Carol, so calm and peaceful! It looks almost supernatural with the glowing background.
