West Indian Manatee
Crystal River, FL

I just got home from a Shoot The Light Workshop with Charles Glatzer. This morning we had over 20 manatees in the area where we were photographing. It would have been an incredible experience even if we had not been taking pictures to swim with these animals. It was of course even better to be able to capture some of them with the camera. Many of the manatees, particularly the younger ones are quite curious. This one swam right up to me.

Canon 10D with 17-35mm@17 in EWA housing, ISO 400, 1/200@ 5.6, apeture priority, full frame. What may look like dirt on the sensor is backscatter (particles)in the water.

Sweet! I'm glad you had something other than overcast and rain this year. (I bet it was warmer too) The little dappling of sunlight is nice in this shot.

Oh, oh, here come the manatee pics again. Looks like you could have handed this one the camera for a shot of you. Well done, entertaining as well as high in quality.

Wonderful shot! One of these days I'll have to make my way there to get some pics of them or their Pacific cousins, the dugong...

Kudos!

Cheryl, I could have put my camera away and been satisfied with this remarkable encounter; an intimate experiance I will never forget.

You have captured the essence of this most wonderful creature for all to see.

Best my friend,
