Lioness
Ngala, South Africa
Nikon F100, 500mm AFSII
Provia 100 pushed one stop

Not my best African shot but one that fits the motif. We came upon two females on an old termite mound and as we photographed this one sounded off with a half grunt and yawn.

My what big teeth you have!

I've never seen a lion in the wild from this angle - and I don't think I really want to either, given the likely implications! ;) Nice capture. My only complaint? I yawn every time I look at the shot! LOL

Jeff, Great motif shot and definitely a different angle on a lion. Thanks for sharing this.

Really great shot from a very unusual (fortunately) perspective. A few nits that could easily be fixed - there's an unnaturally straight, dark band across the top that maybe looks more like part of the slide mount than the tree and could be cloned or cropped. The exposure on the lion looks perfect, but there are some highlights between the huge mouth and tree trunk that could be toned down.

Great angle. No flash? Immediately thought of my visit to the dentist this morning.
