This was the first bear I saw when we headed out to the fields. The first one is always the most exciting :)
Image
Canon 1D 500mm ISO 200 F8@ 1/1000 cropped a little for offset presentation.
Looks a little soft I call it my "Teddy Bear Effect"...excitement is my only excuse

One unique thing you can see when visiting the PB's in Churchill is that the habitant includes small willows and some years in lack of snow a lot of gravel. At times the willows can be bothersome but I captured this guy in his natural surroundings for future writings on the bears for our website.

Once the ice freezes over the bay there is limited access to the Cape where the BG is all ice and snow.

Comments & suggestions always welcome.

I like showing the bear in his environment, and how the bear is looking at you. I also like the layers in this shot. Looks like you had at least some good light!

This is excellent. An alternate and even more excellent crop in my opinion is to take 1/3 off the top. I love this shot!

Great timing to catch this bear with one paw elevated, and the direct stare is great.

Very cool shot. I like the inclusion of the environment, but agree with EJ's crop suggestion. The light on the bear is great.

Excellent, exposure, balance and detail. Might be an even stronger with a crop off the top.

Excellent environmental shot of a good looking bear. Cropping 1/3 off the top would still show a lot of environment but also focus more on the bear and get rid of the big OOF thing in the BG which is distractiong. Keep the pbs coming.

Bears are great and this one is no exception, a nice attentive posture and expression makes for a terrific image although I'd agree with the crop suggestions as the half eaten giant apple in the background is a distraction.

Regards

John

Color me jealous as well! Concur with the prior critiques, but love the shot still.

I never have to wait for photos to load and when I first saw this I thought - ohmygosh this would be beautiful if his legs weren't cut off! But then the picture finished loading - and it is beautiful. The way it is - or - cropped. It's great.
