Canon 1D, 300mm f/2.8L IS, 550EX + Better Beamer @ -1 1/3EV.
Serengeti National Park, Tanzania
January 2004

I was crouched down shooting on my stomach, and all of a sudden a hippo popped up out of the water half the distance between me and the hippos I was currenty enthralled with. Needless to say, I grabbed 1 shot and took off running.

Neat shot and the centered composition works fine here. I'll bet this one popping up in front of you really got your heart started!

Andy,
just think of the amazing shots you could have captured if you stayed there. This is very nice!

A classic image; I found myself studying it for awhile. Thinking, like, how did you get this image? Then I read your info. and yikes! Then I wondered if there are sand fleas there?

yeah, kind of a scary moment. No sand fleas at this particular location, which is why I take people to this particular pool over others.
