Hauled Out Harp Seal

While looking for some subjects to photograph out east on Long Island Stu and I stumbled on to this Harp Seal haul out in a marsh.

Canon 1D 500mm f4, Tripod Ball head Sidekick Leveling head, Manual exposure using incident meter 1/160 @ f8, Manual focus.

Pose is simply smashing! Tail way up and a head throw look back at you while resting on the only spot of snow around! I love it.

That's very different- I've always seen them on rocks, sand or ice- never near vegetation like this. Great pose

Since this is from Long Island, I've just got to wonder if one of the local mob families followed through with the well known threat, "to put him on ice." :wink: (OK, bad humor, but I couldn't pass it up.)

Jimmy, I love this! The warm tones in the vegetation work well with the snow and background water. The turned back head almost looks flirtatious - perfect for Valentine's Day!
