For some reason, my Polaroid 4000 scanner refuses to be recognized by my Mac OS 10.5.1. "No input found" is the message. I have checked that the Apple System Profiler sees the scanner, and turned on the SCSI scanner before booting but still no luck; even disconnected the external hard drives. Have checked around the internet and can't locate an answer. If anyone has experience with this equipment combination and situation, I would love to hear from you. Thanks in advance.

I'm not on Mac either but I think Geo nailed it. A SCSI device needs to be on and connected before the computer gets turned on, or it won't be recognized the same way a USB device would be....
And after you turn on the 4000T ( I own one too), let it finish its 'convulsions' before firing up the computer. It needs to do its little song and dance first........
Cheers,

Aha. Even though I had re-booted after turning on the skuzzie-SCSI-thingie, I had not thought of reseating the plug 3 or 4 times. Thanks, Geo and Jeff. :)

Hi Juli,
I don't use Mac but with my Windows machine I don't have to reboot when I turn on the scanner. After the scanner has done it's think I go to "my computer" and right click on it and select devices and then click "refresh" and it finds it. Don't know if you have anything similar on Macs but this does speed things up if you do.

I'm no MAC expert here, but from my Linux platform I have to set these:

/sbin/rmmod sg
/sbin/rmmod scsi_mod
/sbin/rmmod aic7xxx
/sbin/modprobe aic7xxx
/sbin/modprobe sg
/sbin/modprobe scsi_mod

I guess you have to set some in a Mac enviroment.

Success! After checking with Polaroid, Mac, and Vuescan software folks, I ordered and installed a new SCSI adapter and all is now well again. I must say I thought I would get the shakes opening the back of my computer, but the scariest thing about replacing this piece was seeing all the dust that had crept in around the edges. I learned a lot about SCSI peripherals and connections in the process. Many thanks for each of your comments. 8)

That's the best way to learn your computer, wade in that box with waders and get in it up to your elbows........ :)
