Any suggestions on printing on this paper? I do not seem to have much luck experimenting with different paper settings. I know the ink is ultrachrome and not really meant to be compatible with glossy papers not intended for this printer but Epson does not seem to make a trifold paper which is what I need. I tried printing with Epson's Premium Glossy profile with horrible results, tried reducing the ink output and tried standard inkjet profile etc. What I am getting is blotchy ink in dark areas mostly - not smooth. I may just abandon ship unless someone else has a suggestion or experience printing on non Epson glossy papers.

Hi Greg, the R2400's UltraChrome K3 inks will work fine with non-Epson glossy papers. However, it is possible (perhaps probable) that this particular HP paper is not compatible with pigment inks. For instance, there are many papers that will work well with dye-based inks but not pigment-based inks such as the R2400's UC K3. Unless the paper is advertised as specifically being compatible with pigment inks, it's safer to assume that it is not.

Sorry, what do you mean by trifold? Not familiar with the term ...

Eric,

Yes I am aware that there may technically be an incompatibility but after a bunch of tries I found the solution. Reducing the ink output by 40% results in a perfect image every time and it seems to hold on the paper just fine. Trifold meaning the paper (8 1/2 x 11) is scored two times so it folds in thirds making a nice folded brochure printable on both sides.

Hi Greg, glad you found the solution. Wow, reducing ink output by 40% is quite a lot! But if it works, it works. Thanks for the explanation.

Greg,

Glad you found a solution. I was curious because I have the R2400 and would be a little nervous using its expensive ink on non-print style papers. I was just thinking (while looking at the snow flurries outside) whether you could do a brochure with color laser? (I ponder this because I have an HP color laser printer as well.)

I have never had much luck printing with an Epson onto any HP papers. the ink just doesn't seem to stick to the glossy papers and seems to come off in grains on the non-glossy media. Kodak papers are even worse for this.

I would imagine that, in general, the HP papers that you'd have the most luck with when using an Epson printer would be the HP papers designed for HP's new pigment ink printers ... namely, the HP Advanced Photo Paper Glossy and the HP Advanced Photo Paper Satin.
