Barnegat sunrise (Help!)

This picture has me all confused. Is this ‘recycling’ material or something worth working on? Sun looks distracting and attracting at the same time. I’m not sure about composition either. All comments and suggestions welcome.

I would have to see the unmanipulated file to see what is salvageable - this looks way too solarized. It sure is a nice scene with a lot of potential though.

Anything can be worked on to some degree. Without seeing the original, as mentioned it's hard to say how well this can be "fixed up".

If this was shot in RAW there may be a way to merge two different exposures from the conversion process. Based on the detail I see I would bet there is an easy way to make this image a lot better starting with the original. As it is shown now it looks like you used the shadow/highlight tool way too much (seems to be a common problem).

BTW I like the composition and the elements in the scene.
