I downloaded the 15 day trial of C1LE. I absolutly love the software & now need to make a purchase. My question is if anyone has opinions as to if I would miss any of the features available in the Pro version as aposed to the LE version? With the $ difference of $400.00 I'm not sure the pro version has anything I cant live without. Any imput would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Corey,

While someone else will have to help you regarding the different features, some cameras will only work with the Pro version of C1. From the sound of it, your current camera works fine with C1, but if you plan on upgrading to something like the 1Ds ever, then you will have to go with the Pro version. Otherwise, it sounds like the LE version is all you need.

Thank you Chris,
I am curently using th 10D so it is comatible & I know that they do not offer an upgrade so if I ever step up to a dif. camera I would need to buy the pro version. Right now I am more concerned with features that I will miss on the LE version with my curent equip.

An upgrade may be possible in the future. Cature One DSLR is incredible.

PhaseOne (the makers of Capture ONE DSLR) have stated that there is NO upgrade path from LE to the Pro version. Let's home that someday they will change their minds.

I own and love LE, In my opinions it is by far the best raw processing software out there.

If I recall correctly, besides LE only working with the D30, D60, 10D and Nikon D100, there are three main differences.

1. LE comes with a one profiles per camera. Pro comes with a pretty extensive set.

2. LE does not allows resizing of the images.

3. LE can only batch 20 images, I think, whereas Pro can batch an unlimited number.

I personally meet with the Commercial Product manager for the US, someday might not be far away . With new product being recently released by competitors it would be beneficial to say the least.

One more thing: LE does not allow custom camera profiles, you have to stick with the supplied ones.

One of the biggest issue would be the 20-pictures per batch limit. It could be pain when you have taken a load after an event. But I don't think it could be a big problem.

I use this one also because I am now using a 10D. I guess the glitch in Canon API has generated a lot of C1LE buyers. :o

Chas,

It is very good to hear that it looks like there will be an upgrade path. Am I asking too much now for the price of the Pro to come down, oh say 50%

I have used C1LE for some months now. It's a wonderful program. The only thing I've missed now and then is the possibility of resizing your images (especially upsizing) already when processing the RAW-files.

Chas,

Please let us know what you think of Silverfast's DcPro compared to Capture One DSLR LE. I am using Capture One at the moment and have been very pleased with it mostly (except that it eats up a tremendous amount of memory and runs awfully slow at times). Specifically i'd be interested in how the processing of Raw images compares between the two. I've found Capture One to produce very clean images.

You can certainly use other 10D profiles. I've converted images using other profiles, for example, the AboutDigicam Truecolor profiles that are bundled with BreezeBrowser.
One of the biggest issue would be the 20-pictures per batch limit. It could be pain when you have taken a load after an event. But I don't think it could be a big problem.
I think this limit will be a problem, if you convert dozens of pictures with the same conversion settings. If, like me, you look at each image, tweak and then only convert selected files, you probably won't have any difficulty.

Roger

Hello Roger,

Nice to see ya here!

I did mean you cannot use custom profile, you just cannot create your own like C1Pro. Sorry my poor English.

I still use BB for downloading and file management. Before then, I would just convert right away. Now, I usually check each image, adjust the level before converting, and sometime I even go back to BB for a 100% view. I know this workflow is not very optimzed, especially when I have had a big "catch" session. So far, no complaints about this 20-files limit.

Hey, Griffin. The solution to this, is download the C1 pro demo, you have then got one month to create as many edited profiles as you like. :D

That is "merry cheating" isn't it?

BTW, so far, I am quite satisified with the default 10D profile. Mind you, I may be just too easily satisifed.
