Taken last Feb or March near Anchorage when we had very little snow. This winter there's a lot of snow so climbing into the mountains for these guys is not an option.

I've adjusted the color balance to eliminate the bluish cast that comes with Provia on an overcast day.

Canon EOS 3, 300/2.8 + 1.4TC, Provia, tripod.

Hey Tim,

I see a funky color cast . magenta in the background, and maybe a greenish or cyan tinge in the f/g, LHS. It also looks a tad under-exposed to me. The rams in the middle and right are nice rams, and I like group comp.

Cheers

Carl

A good shot of the 3 amigos. Composition is nice but I too see some sort of color shift although it could be my monitor. I'd be tempted to give this a slight curves adjustment to lighten things up and then maybe adjust the whites.

Carl- Thanks for the comments. I've struggled to get this one looking reasonable- guess I'm coming up short.

If anyone wants to down load this and play with it, feel free. I'd just like to know what you did to improve it.

I did a slight curves adjustment to lighten things a bit and then I brought down the level of the blue curve making it a little less steep. Then I boosted the contrast a bit so that the most highlighted area was *almost* hot, and gave it a couple shots of USM. Finally, because I was doing a quick and dirty on the USM or for whatever reason I introduced some noise to the background to I did a quick blurr to make that go away. With a little more patience it might be a little neater but I'm about ready to go to bed ;-). There is some noise in the foreground snow that I introduced as well but its not bad and since this area is in focus I didn't want to mess with it any unless other people think that it needs to be dealt with. There might still be a slight color cast to it but I think that this is atleast the first step towards an improvement.

Here is what I came up with:

Really cool - the repost is much better but I would also bring back the cyan.

Thanks for posting. I am getting in a little late here and looks like all the important issues have been discussed. I really have enjoyed your Dall sheep images and hope to see more in the coming year. Best for 2004.

Great shot of the 3 Musketeers! I love the composition, but the colors look a bit funky here. The repost overall looks more neutral, but some of the highlights look blown and there seems to be too much cyan.

Another sweet sheep shot. I love the pose and the comp on this trio. The repost helps on the color balance. I hope you share more of these beautiful animals with us in 2004.

Michael- Thanks for taking the "blues" out of the brothers. I tend to be pretty conservative with the USM so I wasn't surprised you used more of that. I've struggled with the curves tool but I guess I need to keep at it. Thanks again for the repost and, most important, the explanation of what you did! :)

The second post is great to my eye. When I first saw it, I was bowled over with the blue cast. now it is a lot better.
Great shot.

Tim, very nice, I like the second a little better, not as much color cast.

Monique, I am packed and ready to go, I may not look like much but I am well behaved and can grow on you like a fungus, with no cure for it!!!

Monique's repost makes this for me. It is more how I would envision the scene to look.

What a wonderful shot!!

Monique- Wow, that's great! Would you explain what steps you took to salvage this image?

The second repost looks more natural! I like the poses a lot- especially the way the sheep look about to slide right off the hillside. :)
