Which external enclosures did you get? I looked at some at Fry's and didn't want to pay $80. I bought a Net Disk 80GB for $160. It attaches to USB or the hub/switch and works quite well.

I have a spare 20BG I want to use for temporary back up in an external enclosure.

Hey Bob, Thanks for the heads up. I stopped by the local Comp USA and picked one up! Great deal. I almost picked one up there a couple of weeks ago for $100 more. Off to Bosque in the morning!

Sold out?? I just ordered one and the USB 2 shell for it. I had decided to order the extra storage when I could get it for $1 a Gig.

Thanks to the heads-up I managed to beat my goal.

Gosh, I remember buying my first hard drive for an IBM PC. My price goal at that time was $1 a Meg. :-)

You all better check if that enclosure's controller allows for larger than 120GB drives. Most do not and at that price its likely it doesn't in which case you are throwing away half of the drive that's on special. I learned this from personal experience ordering a more expensive USB 2 enclosure than this one and once I got it realizing I couldn't use the whole drive.

Well that bites! I guess I will find out soon enough... Why the limitation?

I will simply return it if I find that it doesn't (not waste half the drive space). Any suggestions on enclosures that support that size?

Today I bought a Q-tec 750H external case. This one also supports a maximum of 120Gb. Well, for me 120Gb should do for some time... The Q-tec 756C supports up to 200Gb according to their web site.

I just wanted folks to know that the enclosure I purchased (for 49.99) does in fact support the full capacity of the drive (in my case 250MB).

I got my Maxtor 250 G drive and the USB 2 shell today. Getting the drive into the shell is a real squeeze, but I did and it works fine. Took about 1.5 hours to format the drive. I have already copied all of my scans to the drive. I finally have a backup for them, plus the original film images of course!

The shell does give the full 250 G of space (actually 233 after formatting). I am very happy! :)
