Banded Mongoose
Maasai Mara, Kenya

We found this pair of banded mongoose guarding the opening to their den in an old termite mound. They were very skittish and we sat for a long time waiting for them to come out after we stopped our vehicle.

Nikon N90s with Tamron 200-500 MF zoom, possibly with 1.4 TC, cropped from vertical, Provia 100.

Cheryl, very cute critters! The crop is just right - I get to see them up close and also see their home.

Hey Cheryl,

This is a nice image, and I agree with Kelly on the crop .. just right. The image looks a bit soft though.

Cheers

Very cool shot Cheryl. Your patience paid off. I especially like the pose of the two watching in different directions.

Nice catch and worth waiting for.

I saw one of these being snatched by a Fish Eagle in Zambia last year. It was heartbreaking watching the others chase after the eagle. She never let go tho' and eventually landed on a sand bar to enjoy lunch
