This beautiful male was found just after first light near Mara Simba Lodge. Jack and I watched him eat every piece of the wildebeast's head except the skull and horns. Lips, cheeks, nose, ears, tongue...

And then we ate our own breakfast in the LandRover.

Some of you have seen this picture from September, 2002, posted on another site. But too bad! :) I didn't get to go back to Kenya in 2003 as I had hoped and now I can't stand the wait any more. So....some of you are doomed to view my 2002 Masai Mara pictures once again!

However, I am now starting to plan my next trip to Kenya for this coming September. Once I get another "fix" of Kenyan wildlife photography I'll be easier to live with.

Hey Len,

Always a treat to see African big game, and this is very nice. Maybe a touch more contrast to add some punch, but that's purely personal preference.

Cheers

Nice shot, Len. As Carl says, it could be improved by a little general contrast enhancement. To do this consider a further application of usm with the following settings 30;30;0.

Those cravings are going to be pretty strong if you're going to have to wait 'til September; a guy could get pretty grouchy :!:

Best wishes

Thanks for the suggestions.

Phil

I have never in my life used anything as high as "30" for radius. :D How does it look?

Yougurt for breakfast doesn't look quite as appetizing at the moment! :)

Love the shot, slightly prefer the second to the first, perhaps with the best in between? I've started for a final "shot" of USM at 30/30/0 and then dial down to taste, typically ending at something closer to 10/10/0, but ifound that this last jolt of USMreally varies greatly by shot.

Great catch Len! and the second shot does pop better. We don't go back until August 2004 so we do sympathise with your Missing Africa Syndrome!!

When I told my Mother we were going back next year she said - ''But I thought you had got it out of your system'' - she doesn't realise that it gets into your system and there it stays!!!

Nice one! 8)

You actually caught a male lion awake! Almost everyone I found in Africa was sleeping. I like the shot and he has a beautiful alert pose. I do like the added contrast.
