These are a local/uncommon to rare butterfly, found in the north in some marshy meadows:
Canon 10D, 300/4 + TC + extension, F16, 1/100 The butterfly club joined tipped me off to the location, or I never would have found one. Above they look a bit like a Pearl Crescent, but below they are a bit fancier. Fast and elusive, too. The unusual flower is spurge, taken in June this year. Cloned a bright spot from the background.
