I loved David's story on the Dusky Nightjar, and it inspired me tell my Nightjar story. In the Kgaligadi Transfrontier Park, South Africa, I got out of the vehicle for a pee break. The tree I chose was alive with birds, but as I stood, a large bird I had been unaware of was flushed and flopped under a nearby bush. We then had to decide between Rufous Cheeked or Mocambique Nightjar. Playing the tape - no response from Mocambique, but an immediate call back from RC Nightjar. Interesting that a couple of days later we passed the same tree, and found it again...

I love nightjars. They are so incredably different and they do seem to come back to the same perches. One time I was given a roof repair to do on a 4 story bld.. It was a flat roof with 5 foot walls all around. There were two babies and a mom living up there( Our common nighthawk). The babies almost got squished when I overturned the hatch cover to get on the roof. It was such a joy to keep an eye on those two little ones as they moved always together around the roof while we did our repairs the next few days. Its amazing how a bunch of redneck roofers will change and start caring about something--The whole crew was really into them.

I strongly feel that if you clone some of the woody ground cover stuff over the OOF blurred forground, this would be a killer photo for sure. I don't really mind the stick because it seems to be part of the camoflaged theme. But that foreground having the mightiest color -red -in it and it's brightness is wrecking the effect. A wonderful shot---A wonderful bird...

Cool! I would crop some off the bottom, it doesn't add much to the photo.
