With a rainy weekend forecast where I live I thought it was nice to have an interesting picture taken in the rain lighten the mood (for me that helps most of the time...). So here comes a puffin collecting nesting material on the scottish island of Lunga earlier this year. At first I thought this trip had been in vain as the rain was closing in much faster than forecast but to my amazement the birds were much more active than a few days earlier when the sun was shining.

What a story this tells! My only suggestion would be to see if you could brighten the head just a little. This is a really great image Karl!

Karl--This is really awesome to me. The OOF stuff right up front should go, and definitely what Kim said about lightening the whites. But I just love this. You got this strong diagonal with those grasses in his beak, a wonderful subject- with a sweet head turn, an interesting background -giving a tremendous sense of depth, his eye--that incredable eye--is right on the dot on the upper right thirds crosshairs, the light area to the upper left providing a gentle exit point for the eye, and rain! My favorite weather to photograph in is in the rain! This picture so much shows off the power capabilities of good compostion. And boy does that red in his bill and eye sing opposed to all that green. Red and green are THE two most powerful complimentaries. I don't know that you could do better than this if you set the shot up! This photo is worth whatever it takes in fine finess tweaking to maximize its impact. A job extemely well done! :) :)

This is a wonderful capture. I would love to photograph these very cute birds one day. The facial expression is great, looks like how I feel on a rainy Monday morning  I agree that a lighter head would improve this, well done!

Very nice Karl!! The rain and material he/she is collecting is excellent. It's a shame about the OOF grass in lower left.

A fantastic environment shot, Karl. I love the rain...make me think of the coast where they live...and where it rains.
