Mount Rundle - Banff National Park, Alberta
EOS 1Ds, 24-25 @ 45mm, 1/160, f/5.6, ISO 100

This one is a lot more understated than most of the dramatic shots of Mount Rundle just outside of Banff but the longer I let this one ferment, the better I like it. I took this on a soft overcast day from a spot that this mountain is rarely photographed from as it requires some hiking off of the main road that runs along the Vermilion Lakes.

Another beautiful photo of the place I would most like to visit. I'm always amazed by the amount of small details in your images. To me they really stand out above the average photo.

E.J. I am a big fan of the soft light in landscapes and don't think it is used enough. This photo shows the quiet beauty that this light can bring. Some of the impact of the lush forest below the mountain, the foliage climbing up the slopes and the soft green meadow grasses of the foreground would have been lost if this had been done in more dramatic, contrasty lighting. The soft blue sky above with the wispy clouds add a wonderful calm touch to the photo as well. Very nice!

E.J., a beautiful scene! I like the soft tones. The diagonal line of the foreground is nice, especially with the detail in the grass. It sort of leads my eye to the mountain reflection.

I like the 'open' feeling of the light. I like the idea of the simple textured foreground but it doesn't seem to fully complement the shape of the mountain making the overall composition feel a bit ackward to me.
