Hi all,

A straight-forward portrait of this Kentish Plover, the same species as the US Snowy Plover.

1Ds 500/4 1.4x 1/1250 @ f7.1 ISO 200

cheers,

Alister

REPOST:
Image
There were a few justifiable comments that the image perhaps wasn't quite up to standard, the original crop is 856 x 816 pixels from a 1Ds file...so at 650, this is nearly a 100% crop...

Reworked a bit, but you get the point!!!!

cheers all,

Alister

The low angle, raised wings and eye contact give the punch to this shot, Alister!
Somehow plumage detail and sharpness are not as good compared to your usual. Now I'm being too critical ...

Nice shot Alister. Like the wingstretch. The shot does appear a little soft on my monitor, maybe use a bit more USM?

This is a great photo, but it looks as though something went wrong in the postprocessing; even though the size is 110kb, it looks as though it's way compressed. Did it get accidentally re-saved or something?

Alister, when I saw this image I my first impression was "wow, what a fantastic pose, too bad it isn't sharp" I'm glad to see a couple others noticed this as well. I little more USM is in order I think. I also see a few jpeg artifacts. Otherwise this rocks! :D

Hi Alister

On my monitor, I see 'ghosting' which is most obvious around the bill. More USM doesn't appear to be answer IMO & Mike D might be along the right lines. A stunning little plover & pose despite these issues.

PS: You'll have to explain to KK what the blue stuff is in the BG though!!

The 1Ds is phenomenal for grabbing details, this is actually a pretty big crop, about 15% of the frame!!! Yes, it's a little soft in places, if I'd spent more time in PS it would look a lot better....this is grabbed off my other website...

Wayne,

Alister is in North Eastern China and I'm in Hong Kong where 'grey' bg is now the hallmark ... That's why!
