While the subject is presented very well, the white patch above its head is somewhat distractingl

The subject is detailed and sharp, Guy!
I'm just not a great fan of 'manupilated' nature shots unfortunately ...

Somewhere between the original and repost. I would leave the dark crag, but tone down the white above the head and desaturate the color spots in the beige BG area.

Hmmm...., thanks. I too didn't like the repost.

Larry... started off to do what you suggest, but just got carried away.
Will just have to try & pick my shots better - trouble was that being so close to the subject, & not having any lattitude to move far from my base spot, & only having a small area in which I could hide on which was otherwise an open area, not much I could do when somebody parks his boat behind the birds head :?
Need to save up for a bigger lens so I can pick my "hides" :)
Yr comments & advice are appreciated - I take it the bird itself was ok.

Yup - Bird is great. Nice close-up, good angle and exposure. As you mentioned, sometimes you just can't reposition yourself and have to work with what you are given.

Bird is great, Guy. I'm always impressed with how you get so close with a shorter lens. Unfortunate about the boat, but there is always a next time.

Everything that was in your control here is great. Too bad you couldn't move some :(

The bird itself is fine as mentioned above, but the boat is unfortunate. The repost is a definite improvement. The water looks slightly odd to me though.
