Willet Catoptrophorus semipalmatus
La Jolla 8-28-05

I love shooting shorebirds and Willets are up there as one of my favorites. The fresh plumage on this Willet was the first one I saw that had completely molted this summer. Cloned out some white decoration on the sandstone. Cropped less than 10%.

You know I like this shot Mike - Great Bird, plumage, and composition. :D :D :D . Just wish the light angle (or front leg) allowed the rear leg to be mostly sunlit. Do you do car hoods too? I get lot's of "decoration" from time to time on mine :P :P :P

Beautiful colors! I like the way the willet and the rock are similarly colored and the way the willet pops so nicely from the steel-blue sea.

Beautiful Mike. The richness of the color of the water makes this sing.

Mike,

This is an all around beautiful shot - from the bird, to the blue water, to the sandstone. Very well done.

Beauty of a shot Mike!! :)

Steve,
How do you add canvas to an image with the same colors already in the photo? So it blends with existing photo colors and BG?

Thanks for the repost and crop suggestion. I actually like it somewhere in between them. Great PS work Steve.

I really like ths detail, the pose, the look he is giving you, and the blue of the background.

I too wish for the other foot. Also the area behing the foot where the rock meets the water looks a bit strange - is this where you did the cloning?

Wow, Mike, those feathers are 3D! I like the head angle and the clean background. Your manual focus skills are deadly!

The feathers certainly do look fresh and undamaged with this well-detailed shot. Love your background and the cleaned sand!
