Great Egret

I shot this great egret yesterday about 3:40 PM on the east end of my yard where the birds congregate until it cools off later in the afternoon. Sometimes five or six species are in this small, shady area at once. Ducks, egrets, and herons are the most common congregants.
Nikon D2x, 500 AF-S f4, 1/200th @ f11 Manual mode, ISO 400, SB-800 manual exposure 1/2 power fill, Better Beamer.

Beautiful shot! Nice exposure and different background, it looks like one of the Audubon paintings.

I think Ligia hit the nail on the head. THough the GE is a common subject, the BG makes this shot. I like that you included so much of the BG. Print it and frame it. :)

I agree completely - the background really makes this shot special.

Does look like there might be a slight green cast to the whites of the egret - could well be the colour reflecting from the foliage and if so may well be best left uncorrected

This is a very nice habitat shot. I agree about it looking like an Audobon painting. Those big leaves are shaped so that they nicely frame the bird.
