To Sheep - Perchance to Dream...

I would be interested in your brutal and frank comments on this one, as I started out full of enthusiasm and then seemed to lose my way a little somewhere along the line!

Don't worry - I shan't be offended, just interested to get your differing views on something I'm not really sure about myself!

All comments appreciated - good or bad!

Sorry - I forgot to add that this is a Macro of an Orchid Petal, combined with a Lamb, Flood and various PS effects.

I'm not sure why you are worried about this to be frank Carol (well Danny really, but Frank will do). Looks like you have a few smoke effects in this, beautiful sweet soft blend and the colours are gorgeous.....being honest :D I love the way the flood comes into the frame, to me thats a very clever touch. The sheep is darn cute IMO and suits this. Again those colours are beautiful Carol. Maybe the bubbles could go, but they seem to be part of the dream as well. I'll be counting sheep in about half an hour :D

Anyway Carol, no doubts this end at all to be honest with ya :D :)

Thanks Frank, er I mean Danny

The bubbles were the last thing I added - when I began to lose my direction! I kept adding other things and then taking them out and I had more bubbles - then less

I like the colours, but I feel something isn't quite right - and I can't put my finger (or mouse) on what it is... :|

Ahhh bubbles huh. Ok bubbles it is then :D 8) Oops. LOL. I think when we work on an image for awhile Carol, we start to doubt it. DON'T  If in doubt, save it and go back to it another day. I have a folder with around 35 gigs of maybe's. Always get plenty ideas of combing and changing when I look at those. They are the most important tool of all and its never ending. So save them  Often I'll save as a "ufo" extension in Photoimpact and "psd" in Photoshop. That way they are still live, if that makes sense.

Oh dear I need smiles folks :D

You have a dreamy/soft feel to this.
But then, ..... you have those "squiggly" lines running down the side portion of the frame which in my opinion, really throws an overall nice idea and creation into a tailspin, or, totally out of balance.

Maybe if those squiggly lines were less defined, then it might work.
They are just to bold looking for a creation that I imagined you wanted that feel of softness, or subtleness.

And, ........... I know what you mean about "losing your way" as you work on them. Sometimes, I just have to get up and walk away and sometimes, maybe a couple of days before I can start back to work on it again! :)

Still a very cool piece here Carol! 8)

Thanks Danny - I have saved this and gone back to it more than once! I decided I'd get it out in the open and pick someone else's brains for a while! - its the first time I haven't been able to express it the way I wanted, even by taking a break and going back. 8)

Mike, I feel you may have hit right on what at least some of the problem is with the overall feel of this one! :P I totally agree with what you say on those squiggles and can't imagine how I didn't spot the jarring effect they have on the image! Doh!!!!! - Thanks Buddy!! :D :D :D

Absolutley love the lamb, the reflection and overall feeling. I'm with Mike on losing the squiggles -- in fact I'd lose the colored part of the border, too, and blend the image into the border -- but that is me. I also think the border is too bright and too much the same color as the image and may be competing with it. If you decided to leave the bubbles, I'd soften them and blend them into the whole somehow -- but I'm not sure they are needed when you already have such a great subject.

Don't get me wrong -- I really like this a lot -- and the things I'm saying reflect my own ideas (my husband calls me the "queen of subtlety" which is not always a good thing).

I also agree with the suggestion of leaving things alone when it starts to make you crazy -- something I haven't been that good at doing!

Forgot to say -- I love your title! :D

Thanks Christina! You need never be afraid to say what you think on my images - I appreciate your input and you have some great points to make! :D Its really refreshing to get honest feedback when my own creative juices began to dry up on this one, and you could well be right on the border competing - as the squiggles do, with the overall softness of the image. 8) 8) :D

I like the creation a lot Carol, it is very dreamlike. Quite often when I am working on a project I walk away from it because I start to do too much. In a day or two I take another look and sometimes hit the delete key and sometimes finish it, so I know where you are coming from.

The squiggle border is a question mark for me, and the bubbles are fine but it makes me ask whats on the Lambs mind, maby another lamb. What about a lamb's head in the bubble? There I go doing too much again.
it is very creative and dreamlike, and great just as it is as well. :) :) :)
Just havin' fun
