Hello everyone,
Autumn is the time for Banksias to flower in my state of New South Wales. Here is the Hairpin Banksia.

D1x, 105mm lens, 1/45 @ f3.5

Great capture of a weird bloom - how does it develop as it matures, looks as if the hair clips start to spring open ?

Hi Andrew,
I think you are right and they do open. They go all ratty and don't look so nice and one tends not to notice them. Eventually the "hairs" all fall out and even though there are hundreds of potential flowers to pollinate on each spike, only a few actually do.
