Kodiak Bear

Those of you who have photographed these bear before know quite well how difficult it is to capture the eyes of these creatures in a relevant way, brown hair and brown eyes in overcast skies are a pain!!, These animal are utterly wild and most have never seen a human, since this is a protected area!!, There is no chance to pick a good sun angle, there is no room to negotiate!!, These is an extreme crop so you could see her eyes, How do I know it's a she, 'cause I saw her pee-pee, and the guide confirmed this !! Not a small sow to be exact, 600 lbs and maybe more.
The little stream behind, just a couple of feet deep is teaming with salmon in the process of spawning!!!

Great shot Alex, I like the pose and love images that show a little bit of the animal's enviroment. Is it me or is it a bit soft?

This is excellent and has held up quite well for an extreme crop. I pulled it into PS and appled a little more USM which eliminates the softness. The file has also been deleted. This had to be an incredible experience!

I sure love this one, Alex. The claws are great. Is that blood on her mouth? The image is composed beautifully.

Does look like a little blood on the lips. Very nicely done - and no complaining about lack of opportunities! ;) You can even see the salmon in the water!

For those who asked !!
There is blood in her mouth thanks to the Salmon snacks she was having, and due to the extreme crop, I did not want to over-sharpen the image, and on top of that, I could not find my editing glasses, Thanks for looking !!!

I like the crop and the look on her face is great.

When I retire from my "day job" I'm thinking about starting a bear manicure shop- no doubt there's a huge (pun intended) market up here. Payment might be a bit of a problem though... :D

You got some good AK shots. Uyak Bay is way off the beaten track- its great to see some people are getting away from the usual spots!

Awesome creature Alex. Your exposure looks great on my monitor. The look on her face says a lot about capabilities of this animal.
