Bobcat (captive)
.

For those who have never done a captive shoot like those at Triple D Game Farm, you might think that it is easy and that the animals 'pose' on command. That is definitely not the case, especially when it came to this 4 month old bobcat kitten. She was all over the place. She often went where we wanted her to go, but she did not stay anywhere for very long. It was a challenge to try and capture her in a pleasing composition. I was going to post this shot full frame as I initially prepared it, but decided to make a pano crop in keeping with the motif for the week. This cat was probably my favorite photo subject for the whole STL.

Canon 10D with 100-400 IS @150mm, ISO 200, 1/400 @ 5.6, cropped from the sides and minimally from the bottom, burned in a bit of the log.

SWEEEEEEEEEET (panoramic) ... shot Cheryl.. Love the back lighting but still some catch light in the eye.. You are right on the money with respect to the challenges of the captive animal shoot. Wild animals move quietly and cautiously in their environments. If you can find them and approach them, their slow cautious movements are to our advantage in making images. Captives are held for much of the day and when released for work, come on at full speed..Your fast reflexes brought home a winner image here...

Excellent crop, and I agree with Dennis about the backlighting -- very nice. I like seeing the trees in the background, too.

Gorgeous shot Cheryl. Your pano crop works well here, emphasising that beautiful creature.

Congrats. :)

Cheryl, your crop further enhances this fine image. This was over in a split second, and no easy task to accomplish.

Well done my friend.

Best,

Chas

Pano works well here and standing on the log accentuates the stretch nicely. (Also accentuates why it's called a bobcat.)
