The monarchs were late this year, and they are still coming through the meadow in twos and threes. This one came to nectar at the heath aster last week:
Image
Canon 10D, 300/4 + 1.4 TC (no extension for this big butterfly!), F16, 1/500, no flash

Bright late afternoon light. I had some with the butterfly bigger in the frame, but I think I like this better. We're expecting snow, so the last of these better fly south...

Perfectly lovely, Tom. Nice BG and delicate flower petals that set off the spots in the butterfly.

Very nice, Tom. I think the size of the butterfly is just right. Wonderful background, too!

Excellent shot. Exposure is right on and I like the position of the buterfly in the frame.

Nice one Tom. The flowers are sweet and delicate and really add that sense to the image.

Good Shot. Open wings, nice background, just enough flower and all nicely exposed.

Wow, very nice shot, Tom. Great composition and use of the colors in the frame. Most impressive part to me is how you got your film plane parallel to the butterfly and got it perfectly sharp throughout.
