Nothing spectacular here, but I liked the way this fern was growing in the hole at the base of this tree. If I remember correctly, I used a reflector to lighten up the dark shadows in the hole. This seemed to lose alot of detail in the fern and mossy bark during compression. Photo taken near Montrose, PA.

Equipment: Nikon F4, 105 macro, 81A filter, tripod. Velvia @ 40, 1/2 sec at f/8.

Thanks for looking.

I like the color contrast on this one. Perhaps a few too many of the dead leaves - a little gardening might have made this one even better.

Technically, everything appears on the mark. Esthetically, I don't know. Tried to see which feature attracted me the most and how to heighten my awareness of it since there seems to be equal value with the leaves, the ferns, the lichen in the bark. I think the leaves in the LL have to go to let the diagonal line of the dark mossy root extend farther. I like the light in the hole and that I can see the green color well enough but the light LL draws my attention ino the oof area which is not as interesting as that great lichen and bark texture.

Nicely saturated and diverse colors. Possibly a bit too much of the dead leaves but that's a very subjective opinion.

Very nice shot Tom, well composed and I love the different colours and textures which all come together here.
