Help saving file size for upload

I can't seem to figure out how to save and check a file so that it is the right size for posting. After I resize the image to 600 pixals on the longest side, I set it to 72dpi. When I try to upload it, the NSN server says it's too large. Can someone point me to a past posting on how to do this. I'm sure it had been covered A LOT.

Also, how do I check to see which file size is right? If I do it in PS, I get one number. If I do it in Windows, I get another number (file size).

I hope this is clear. I'm using PS 6.0

First of all - DPI doesn't matter since anything that is rendered on the Internet is rendered on a per pixel basis so all you really need to do is to size it to 600 to 650 pixels wide. You can set it to 1 DPI or 10,000,000 DPI - it will display on the Internet exactly the same way.

Once you have the file sized properly, convert it to SRGB and adjust the colors one final time, then click on Save for Web, select JPEG as the output file and move the slider until it reads something less than 120K. Click Save and you can then post that file without problem.
