This is the same Speckled Rattlesnake that I posted a "glamor shot" of a few days ago. But this reveals a different aspect--The venomous reptile within!
He isn't actually striking. This was more like a yawn--I suspect it was a territorial or defensive display (why no rattle I don't know). But it was a pretty impressive sight. I'm glad I got to photograph it! He held this position for perhaps ten seconds.
