Taken last sunday in the "dead lake" area next to Wintersburg Channel. There was one pair of Shovelers in with several pair of Pintails. The Shovelers were much more skiddish and would fly each time I approached, while the Pintails would just swim away... so I worked my way around in the muck into position for a flight shot with the sun to my back. This is the image in the sequence that I liked best.

MkII, 400/5.6, Manual Mode @ F8, 1/1600, Iso 400

Best flight position possible, Vince. I'd have a touch more contrast in Curves. Great to see all its colors in this position.

And you should like it the best! Great coloration in the wings, tail, and head. Great wing placement to show off his colors. And his eye is wide open, but, the whole bird looks a little oversharpened giving it a cut and paste look.

A fine, sleek shoveler with wonderful detail. If you shot in RAW, there may be even more detail available to you in the highlight areas.

Thanks for everyone's comments and suggestions. I have slightly adjusted the S-Curve and did selective USM... also posted from my PC rather than the laptop. I'm not sure if it's improved or not :?:

Very nice, Vince. The light and wing position to show off the colors are great.

Repost looks great, Vince. Now that I've seen this, I know what to try for at the Klamath NWR. These abound there.
