Terrific action shot Dave. I'd like to see a little of the right side and clone out the OOF stuff on the lower right to increase the focus of attention on the Cardinal. These are suggestions not nits... I like the image very much. 8)

Thank you, Vince. I'm wondering about the color - if I should tone down the red? I agree about the oof area!

How cool is this. A swan dive with eye contact. Very cool. If this is cropped, a vertical might work better. The reds look fine.

Absolutely amazing that the head is in focus here with the bird so far off center.

Sweet shot. I have never seen a view like this. Great capture. I agree about the oof areas as well but I would be happy with this one.

Great action capture. I'd crop this to a square format to lose the bright area on the right that doesn't add IMHO.

Very nice capture of fast action, Dave. The in focus face and blurred wings is great. Well done!

Thank you for the feedback everyone. I spent a little more time on the crop/clone/dodge tool. Here is the update:

http://s93536388.onlinehome.us/cardinal2.jpg

The birds would swoop down for the seeds then perch for a bit. I was fortunate to catch him while I was shooting in continuous mode and the AF happened to catch him in this split moment. I don't know who was more surprised at the result; me or the camera? ;)

Thanks again.
Dave

I think if this were mine, I'd make it part of a winter postcard set and print a message on the right. It's very cool.

Dave, my one nit was going to be the empty space on the right side. It just made the composition feel a bit imbalanced. You took care of that in the updated version. And absolutely amazing shot! Great work
