Orange Sulphur
Colias eurytheme

A recent frost really knocked back both flowers and foliage; pickings have been slim.  While walking my dog, I'd noticed a rather rare butterfly I've seen a ton of this year nectaring on the sowthistle.  I went back with my camera, and my quarry was nowhere to be seen, but I loved the soft backlighting on this common species.

EDIT: I never say "click for (blah blah blah)", but the uncompressed view is much better in this case.

Butterfly and flowers look best in the uncompressed view - nice pose, the group of flowers looks great.

I click on every image before commenting Craig - as I did with this one. It was well worth it to see the beautiful details here! A lovely image in the soft light.

Too bad you missed the rarity, but this is a terrific consolation. Gorgeous colors , detail and composition.
