This Cooper's hawk had just finished consuming a bird he ( or she), had captured, and was perched for a short time in the rain. Certainly a very different plumage on the immature Cooper's, compared to the colours and patterns when they attain their adult plumage.

Province of Ontario, Canada, image- December 2023.

Beautiful intimate detail, Paul - I just want to stroke those silky feathers.....but by the intense look and that raptor's beak, not a good idea.

Nice image captured in the rain. I had similar opportunity on a rainy day, took a shot through the closed window. When I started to open the window, it took off.
I also bought a used 400mm F 5.6 L lens but sold it soon as it did not perform well when I added a 1.4x ext. using a modified third party lens adapter. I sold the adapter too.

Beautiful close-up-love the detail. I used to love that lens too, when I was shooting Canon. Looks like it played well with the adapter.

A wonderful portrait for this proud-looking specimen.
I love falling snow is an additional note of merit for this image which is already beautiful in itself.
