Shot this in Wakodahatchee, Florida. Has the plumage of an adult Purple Gallinule, but doesn't have a pale blue shield and the beak is the wrong color.
I'm thinking it might be a hybrid.
Any thoughts?

No idea from me Richard, but it does look like a Purple Gallinule, other than the head doesn't have the blue patch and that beak is missing the red band. It's legs are pinkish too, rather than yellow so it may be a morphing juvenile, halfway to adulthood. Just a thought? TFS.

Great find and eye contact, I like the tilted head.

Look up Purple Swamphen, or Gray-headed Swamphen, a non-native bird often found in Florida marshes.
