Recommendation for a portable external Hard Drive

I'm looking for a recommendation for a portable HD to use as a backup for a 1TB MacBookPro with an M-I Pro Chip and a Thunderboldt (USB-C) Port.

I had purchased a San Disk Pro-G40 HD only to learn that this drive is among those Western Digital drives prone to failure. Luckily it was still in an unopened box and was returnable.

I have been using both Samsung and Sandisk external SSDs for years. The Samsung T7 (I actually have the older T5s) is a safe bet that can be obtained for a reasonable cost. The Sandisk Extreme Pro drives are faster, but as you say have some "issues". With that said I have two of them (a 2TB and a 4TB). The 2TB drive is about 1 year old while I have only had the 4TB for a few months. So far, both are functioning perfectly.

I have a 4TB OWC SSD that is a couple of years old now. No problems with it so far. I also have a few newer Samsung T7, 1 and 2 TB, that work fine. I have a Sandisk 4TB, but it's one of the troubled drives, so I'm phasing it out and keeping backups until I do.
