Here the story behind this one...

...I had woken up @ 3 am in Seattle so I could make it for the late afternoon light and sunset @ Yellowstone. It took me about 12 hrs or so to get to the west entrance. Since Montana is mountain standard time, I lost an hour...so it was around 5 pm or so. I asked the little old lady ranger at the gate if she knew of a nice sunset shot to take. She recommended Old Faithful. However, it would have taken me too long to get there in time for the sunset. Plus, I didn't know when the next erruption was set to go off. So I just drove in the general direction. I saw a sign for this particular spot and decided to stop since the light was fading fast. Luckily I was just in time for this grab. This shot is special to me...not only was it the first shot of the trip, but it was also quite a fortunate one. Enjoy, gang...and let me know how you like it.

Shoot in RAW because memory is cheap, but memories are priceless.

The bottom 1/2inch or so is a little separate from the rest of the photo - it probably could be cropped withouth taking away from the rest. The light is gorgeous. I really like all the textures too. Very fortunate for a grab shot indeed. Hopefully you stayed at yellowstone the next day... :)

It's an excellent shot but I do wish you had posted a smaller version to see here before going to your site.

Echo EJ's point about posting it here...

The colours in the sky are pretty fantastic and give the image a good initial impact. Unfortunately, though, the rest of the image just doesn't hold my interest. I guess you were pusehd for time, which is too bad, because it looks like there's lot's of potential here.

Great image. The luminosity is what makes it special in my eyes. I might consider a bit of cropping off the bottom.

The colors look spectacular. I have to go along with the two prior comments as far as posting this within the forum. It's a little tricky to keep looking to another window and type :)

The colors and reflections are really nice in this image. I agree that the bottom could use a bit of a crop. Looks like a spectacular place to photograph and well worth the effort and the drive.

Mahesh, The colors and the reflection are wonderful! I wish the mist was going into the frame instead of out of it though.

Looking forward to more of your posts from this trip!

I'm surprised no one else has said it yet but this screams PANO! to me - take a big crop off the bottom. The top half is where everything is happening and it's quite beatiful.
Nice!
